Architectural Ride-Bys

I’m in glorious Palm Springs for Modernism Week, where I’m part of the PS Mod Squad, taking photos and spreading love via Instagram. This morning, I grabbed one of the powder blue beach cruisers from the Saguaro (where I’m staying) and rolled out on a rambling, random route through the nearby neighborhoods, searching for houses that struck my fancy. Here are eight of my favorites.

While I was riding, I realized that the speed of a beach cruiser—quite specifically; the heaviness of the frame slows you down—is just about perfect for viewing residential architecture in the desert. Walking wouldn’t have allowed me to cover as much ground; driving wouldn’t have allowed me to notice all the amazing details in front of each home.

Of course, not so ideal in the summer when it’s 114.
