Made By Hand - Cut Brooklyn

Cut-Brooklyn.jpg

In this 10 minute atmospheric short film Joel Bukiewicz of Cut Brooklyn delves into his personal philosophy on what 'handmade' means, how he arrived at knife making, what it takes for a 'skill' to become an 'art'. Quite a touching film that had me wishing I was working in my garage studio and not at my computer... Created by the folks at Made by Hand a new short film series "celebrating the people who make things by hand — sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft."

Visit Cut Brooklyn for a selection of available knives from Joel.

Keep Your Scribbles Safe

I'm not sure about you guys, but I'm a total stationery junkie; I carry a notebook and pen with me everywhere I go. This handcrafted journal cover by Truman Handcrafted is perfect for keeping your notes safe and looking great. Each cover is made-to-order and designed to fit any 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" journals (Field Notes, Moleskine, etc...). By the way, when I say 'handcrafted' I mean this journal cover is 100% handcrafted down to the very last stitch!

Club Americana

I'm super excited for Michael Williams - the co-founder of Paul+Williams PR firm and a fellow blogger/pioneer of Made in America movement.

I've been following his blog (A Continuous Lean) for about a year now and I've always felt that he, just like all of us here at UNIQUE, is a very strong supporter of everything Made in America. It would be a shame NOT to feature him on our blog.

Anyway, Michael just collaborated on a capsule collection with Club Monaco featuring shirts, suits, and ties. The best part? Its all made right here in America! His appreciation for quality and knowledge of the classic Americana style is visible in this short film about the collection. Congrats Michael!

The Mountains are Calling...

I recently received the Flashman American Felling Axe as a wedding gift from my best friend. I'm not sure whether to hang it on the wall or go chop wood. I suppose that's part of the beauty of it. It's exists in limbo between the perfect design object and man's best wooden and steel friend.

Best Made Company creates heirloom quality axes and wilderness accessories. They are guided by a love of simplicity and respect for these tools that embody both survival and productivity. In honor of these admirable virtues Best Made Co. paints their axes.

"A well made axe — the oldest and most invaluable tool known to mankind — could not only function as a lifeline in the wilderness, but at home it could be a magnificent window into that wilderness and inspire people to reconnect with their hands, craft, and nature." A Bag to Die For

Designed, developed, and handcrafted right here in Los Angeles, my favorite bag shop KILLSPENCER has created a new version of their iconic 'open top' Weekender Bag. While the bag still boasts their classic silhouette, this one is sexy as hell because the all-black leather makes it seem like the mature, rugged older brother to their other bags. The bag features premium vegetable tanned black leather, Swiss-made riri-aquazip waterproof zippers, and directional locking button-snaps.
